Parent Advisory Council

The role of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC)

As a parent of a Nicholson student, you are a member of the Parent Advisory Council, or PAC for short. The PAC helps the school in a number of ways.

First, the PAC is an advisory council. As a voice of parents, the PAC informs school planning and receives reports on school success. Whenever there are changes to the way we run the school the PAC receives and provides input on behalf of parents.

Second, the PAC supports various school activities through fundraising. Many programs and activities that are "extras" cannot happen without the support of the PAC. Downhill skiing, the lunch program, funding for field trips, and funding for extra classroom activities are some examples. The parents who are actively engaged in the PAC do so because they want to make our school a better place and enhance the school experiences of children.  The PAC also provides the funding necessary to pay for our annual Leader in Me licensing fee.

Active PAC members are always seeking more help. They need your involvement and ideas.  Most of all they need you! PAC meetings are scheduled monthly, and upcoming meetings will be put on our school calendar online when they are known (as well as communication by e-mail and in the newsletter). Speaking about the commitment, one parent said, "I will be honest, one hour a month is all we need (give a few minutes here or there)." Without your support some of these great activities just can't happen.

Becoming active in the PAC helps provide those special extras enjoyed by students, and provide an opportunity to learn more about our school and what's involved in making it run. We hope to see you at a PAC meeting this year, or as a hot lunch volunteer, a soup day volunteer, a Spring Fling organizer ... every bit helps!
